Prioritising our staff with Mental Health First Aid training

11 May 2022

As voices within the healthcare community, we pride ourselves on assisting the improvement of patient and staff safety – which also means promoting the importance of supporting mental health in all its forms.

After the first lockdown in 2020, Radar Healthcare invested in training volunteers across their departments to become Mental Health First Aiders. 1 in 10 employees is an MHFA now and is trained to not only support their colleagues but they are also able to look for the signs of someone who might need a helping hand.

Having a variety of employees across many teams in Radar Healthcare means that everyone knows someone to talk to, and there is always someone available for a call over Teams or face-to-face chat.

The topic of mental health is better publicised now, but it can still be an overwhelming subject to understand and destigmatise. The first step in doing this is demystifying the process.

As Justine Abson, our Senior Marketing Manager, says: “I didn’t know what to expect as mental health is so complex. But it’s about understanding people, offering emotional support and practical help.”

At Radar Healthcare, we’re incredibly lucky to have people who are not only trained as Mental Health First Aiders but to have people who want to help out and support others in the workplace and beyond.
