Webinar: Can digital technology help enforce a strong patient safety culture?

Last month we held a webinar in association with HSJ, highlighting how technology is a key driver in a strong patient safety culture.

COVID-19 has put huge pressure on healthcare staff and the whole healthcare system, making it more difficult to keep the usual standards of care and patient safety. Now is a key time for learning from what the system has been through and embed positives looking forwards, one of which is the acceleration of digital innovation.

“Technology is a key enabler for change, however without true organisational engagement, improvement will be limited. Only by simplifying the complex, and empowering the workforce to be actively involved in the future of an organisation, will you see a true shift towards a proactive, insightful, safe model.

Change can’t happen with just one person driving it – we need engagement from every corner of an organization to drive the vehicle for change. By embedding employee engagement processes as early on as possible in both the decision making and on-going project management processes, you will see genuine change and a culture-shift.”

Molly Kent, Patient Safety specialist at Radar Healthcare

Key points:

There were 3 main take homes from the discussion between the experts, which we’ve summarised below.

AI is set to make a big impact on improvement

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is playing a huge role in the latest technology’s ability to enhance experiences and make our lives easier. Making full use of this within healthcare teams will be key in the acceleration of improvement.

For example, our Analytics module of Radar Healthcare uses AI and machine learning that deliver business intelligence on your data. Analytics enable you to trigger actions from your data, so there’s no need to trawl through manually to find issues or wait until the end of the month report to understand your performance. With smart KPIs configured to the rules on your data you’re immediately informed when criteria are not met, or when anomalies are spotted.

The importance of people

Implementing a new technology is just one step, but it also needs to be accepted by the people who’ll be using it.

We’ve built Radar Healthcare to be engaging and simple to use and we help you raise awareness of the new software among your teams as part of our partnership working. It’s important to emphasise how it can make staff’s lives easier whilst also improving care for patients. We provide training during onboarding, but our software also has in-built guides.

Keeping technology simple

We all have tech surrounding us in our everyday lives – our smart phones, laptops, and video calls to name just a few. These are all simple to use so that nearly anyone can pick them up and know what to do. Why shouldn’t the technology in healthcare be the same? Simple to use, but smart and innovative so it can really make a difference to many lives.

That’s one of our key aims at Radar Healthcare; we listen to our users in order to continuously make improvements. We have a forum where you can make suggestions and upvote other people’s – this way we can see what’s important and ensure we’re always providing what’s needed.
