Peninsula Care Homes is a family-owned group of five homes in Devon, united by a clear heartbeat: connection, dignity, and a true home-from-home experience for residents, families, and staff. Each home retains its own personality while operating within a strong, values-led framework of honesty, integrity, hard work, family, and education, established by the Arnold family more than two decades ago.

The challenge: Balancing culture with consistent assurance

With more than 23 years’ experience supporting older people across Devon, Peninsula Care Homes had grown organically, with each home deeply connected to its local community. But as the organisation matured, a clear challenge emerged: How do you preserve a true home-from-home culture while ensuring consistent governance, real-time oversight, and CQC assurance across every location?

Like many providers, Peninsula had adopted electronic care planning early. However, as Managing Director Louise Arnold explains, the pandemic highlighted a critical gap:

“We realised we weren’t fully using our data. We needed real-time oversight and confidence in decision-making, not anecdotal reassurance.”

Paper audits, unscored checks, and information spread across spreadsheets and folders meant that gathering evidence could take days rather than minutes. Improvement actions were harder to track, and senior leaders lacked a clear, consistent view across homes, increasing pressure and risk, particularly ahead of inspections.

The solution: One system for shared accountability

Under the guidance of Nicola Kelly, Director of Operations, Peninsula Care Homes invested in Radar Healthcare to create a single source of truth for quality, safety, and compliance.

The rollout was structured and deliberate, ensuring teams built confidence and engagement from the outset:

  • The Events module was introduced first, enabling incidents to be logged, investigated, and closed consistently
  • Audits followed, with actions directly linked to findings to support continuous improvement
  • Scheduled tasks were added to manage routine responsibilities
  • Workforce compliance and policies were centralised and version-controlled
  • Risk registers were implemented to support meaningful conversations about risk and mitigation

By connecting events, audits, actions, and risks in one platform, Radar Healthcare enabled Peninsula to move from reactive compliance to proactive assurance.

“Previously, gathering data could take days. Now it takes minutes, and that time goes straight back to residents.”

Transformational impact of Analytics CQC confidence at Coppelia House

Demonstrating robust, accurate evidence to the CQC is essential. Inspectors expect clear assurance that care is safe, well-led, and consistently delivered. One of the most significant benefits of Radar Healthcare for Peninsula Care Homes has been the confidence it provides during inspections.

All documentation is stored electronically in one place, clearly structured and aligned to CQC expectations. Evidence can be generated instantly as PDFs, eliminating duplication and reducing the stress of inspections for managers and teams.

“Radar Healthcare makes compliance and auditing easier, and CQC inspectors were impressed with how we use it,” says Jemma Bowden, Home Manager at Coppelia House.

“It made the process far more efficient and far less stressful for our teams,” adds Louise Arnold.

“Radar Healthcare is a big investment, but it’s the best investment we could have made to gain that confidence so quickly. I’ve been with Peninsula for 18 months, and had we not had Radar Healthcare to evidence all the work we were doing at Coppelia House, I don’t think we would have achieved a good CQC rating,”

Clearer oversight through dashboards

Radar Healthcare supports different roles in different ways: Nicola uses it for deep-dive analysis, Louise for strategic oversight, and Jemma for day-to-day management. One area where the benefits are clear across all roles is fire safety. Fire audits, drills, and moving and handling audits are now fully integrated within Radar Healthcare. Dashboards highlight trends such as recurring failed questions, enabling leaders to target training and intervene early.

“Dashboards show us where the risks are and where action is needed. For example, we’ve improved confidence around fire extinguisher use, and moving and handling training now includes practical workshops. We’re building a fire dashboard so managers can see risks and actions at a glance, making compliance transparent and easy to demonstrate.”  Nicola Kelly, Director of Operations. The level of engagement became clear to Nicola just weeks after go-live: “One morning the system went down briefly, and by 8:30am managers were already calling because they couldn’t access their dashboards. That’s when I realised just how embedded it had become.”

Consistency across five homes, with strong foundations for growth

While every home is unique, certain processes must be consistent, from incidents and falls to wound care and fire safety. Radar Healthcare enables Peninsula Care Homes to standardise these critical workflows while still allowing each home to operate in its own context. Staging environments allow staff and new managers to practise before going live, reducing reliance on individual knowledge and supporting faster onboarding. Senior leaders can monitor trends and progress without disrupting day-to-day care.

Incident tracking has moved from anecdotal notes to data-led oversight. Audit actions are automatically followed through, and safeguarding or local authority queries that once took hours can now be answered in seconds. “I can log in at any time and see what I need without constantly asking the team. It’s genuinely life-changing.” Nicola explains.

“We’ve talked about growth for a long time, but we hadn’t felt ready. Radar Healthcare has helped us put strong foundations in place, and now I feel confident that we’re ready to grow.”

Impact at every home

At Coppelia House, Home Manager Jemma Bowden uses Radar Healthcare to support both compliance and operational oversight while maintaining a strong culture of person-centred care.

“If it’s not written down, it didn’t happen. Radar Healthcare keeps everything in one place, from infection control to wound care, with clear accountability.”

Inspectors recognise the system as a tool for learning and follow-up, and managers spend less time on paperwork and more time leading their teams. This efficiency gives staff confidence during inspections and allows them to focus on what matters most: residents and their families.

Person-centred values, supported by strong systems

Person-centred care sits at the heart of Peninsula Care Homes. Families are actively involved in care decisions, and feedback consistently highlights the personal, attentive approach delivered across the homes. By reducing administrative burden and providing clarity and confidence, Radar Healthcare protects this culture. Managers have more time to mentor staff, teams feel supported rather than scrutinised, and families gain reassurance that care is safe, well-led, and responsive. As Nicola reflects: “Things aren’t perfect, and we still have a journey ahead. But with Radar Healthcare, I’m confident in what’s happening. I have the information I need, quickly, and in a way that’s meaningful for me and our teams.”

For Peninsula Care Homes, Radar Healthcare is not just a compliance system it is the foundation that enables confidence, consistency, and high-quality care today, while supporting sustainable growth for the future.
